Probably, like most people, we at Animal Lovers Web.com had some experience of keeping hamsters, whether as childhood pets or through friends and relatives who may have had them.
Until recently the most common type of hamster that people kept was the Syrian hamster, like our own, Trouble. It is only really over that past twenty years or so that Dwarf hamsters have begun to increase in their popularity as pets.
Our own Dwarf Russian hamsters are, very different to Trouble – and not just by way of their more miniature features! Unlike Trouble who, as a Syrian hamster has to live a solitary adult life as a pet, the Dwarf Russian’s live together.
Dwarf russian hamsters move much faster and are generally livelier than Syrian hamsters, never appearing to keep still for one second. We have found that they seem much more inquisitive, although recognise that, due to Trouble’s advancing years, he might just be generally more chilled out than a younger Syrian hamster!
