Riley |

We got our Syrian Hamster Riley together with Sooty, as they had been housed together, although from their appearances it's easy to see that they were not litter mates. As you can see from the picture Riley was pretty keen to get out of the travel box and almost broke out by the time we got her home.
As already mentioned, although Syrian hamsters will live together as babies, they should be separated at about six to eight weeks,as after this age they will fight, often to the death. Even two female Syrian hamsters cannot live together, therefore we have housed Riley and Sooty separately. Both of our Syrian hamsters get plenty of human attention and are becoming tame rapidly.

Born: October, 2007
Gender: Female
Breed: Syrian Hamster
Appearance: Riley has a mostly white body with a light golden markings on the head and beautiful piercing red eyes. Her face is so cute and cheeky and she feels like a soft bundle of cotton wool in your hands.
Personality: A very friendly hamster who seems to enjoy human company, Riley is cheeky darling that loves exploring, especially cardboard tubes.
Favourite Food: Monkey nuts. She can’t resist them and is so keen that she will try and stuff the whole nut in her cheek pouches if she doesn't want to crack it open there and then. It looks mighty painful to us but clearly she thinks she’s in hamster heaven! If she is in the hamster playpen with nowhere to stash the monkey nuts then she runs around frantically with the nut.

Habits: Kamikaze antics that leave you speechless! A keen cage explorer, Riley isn't always the most agile of hamsters and takes some amazing leaps of faith off the end of her cage platforms, usually ending up in a bemused heap amongst the wood shavings before starting all over again.
Naughtiest Moments: When we first got Riley, she was quite anxious and nervy and didn't think twice about using her teeth if frightened, as we found out to our bloody and painful cost on a few occasions! However, after getting to know us and some careful handling, she seems to really like our attention and playtimes and is now a much more tame hamster. it’s hard to believe it was the same Riley we brought home.
