Gemma

GemmaWe got Gemma along with her brother Charlie when they were only eight weeks old. They were very close and looked lovely jumping around and playing together, although they were very hard to tell apart by appearance. Gemma was less shy than Charlie though and you could usually identify her as she would always come over for attention.

Gemma

Sadly, Gemma escaped from the rabbit run one night in August by digging under the chicken wire and squeezing through a small gap. Sadly she was found and killed by Molly our Labrador before we knew that she was missing. Molly is a very docile and friendly Labrador who we had supervised with the rabbits many times. However, her instincts could take over when there is small animal running around and she does have a tendency to chase and "retrieve".

Finding Gemma fatally injured was very distressing for all of us and she is sorely missed by ourselves and, we're sure, our remaining rabbits. This page is to remember her by and to celebrate her short but happy life.

GemmaBorn: April 2007 and sadly died August 2007

Gender: Female (Roe)

Breed: Dwarf Lop Rabbit

Appearance: Gemma had a fudge brown coat with some white areas and dark brown/black eyes.  She had big droopy ears and a little stumpy tail and was very hard to tell apart from her brother Charlie.

Personality: Gemma was a very inquisitive rabbit who loved to explore everything and everyone.  She loved jumping on and over your legs and was becoming very sociable.  Unfortunately, a combination of her curiosity and our failure to ensure that the rabbit run had watertight security lead to her escaping and meeting an untimely and heartbreaking death.  We have learned from this terrible event but won’t ever forget our beautiful bundle of fluff!

Favourite Food: Because Gemma died so young, we hadn't stared introducing treats into her diet.  However, she loved it when we put her into the outdoor run and was a great lawnmower!

Gemma and her brother CharlieHabits: She would often hop over and lick your hand – we could never quite understand why but convinced ourselves that it must be an affectionate rabbit kiss!

Naughtiest Moments: How could we think of anything naughty about Gemma!  We miss her and try and remember only happy memories…
