My guinea pig family are very close, but since Diana-Rose's birth, they have been living as two separate groups. Mom needed it a little quieter than usual. So on bath night I thought it was time they had a reunion party.

As usual Pigbert gets the first bath and then his carrots.

Frodo is really glad to see Pigbert.

And Rosie. She looks so sad when she is wet.

Once Lily joins them it is a party.

Of course Charlie and Diana-Rose don't get a bath this time, but they were happy to join the party

I think she likes her aunt Rosie

The boys still love each other

I wonder what they are talking about

They are both so cute

They seem to like to touch.

That is the start of the party.

Of course Lambert needed a bath and with all his fur that is quite a job.
At least Lily helps by washing his face.

Lily was really pleased to see her adopted baby.
And what a cutey he is now

Can you believe how he turned out. He was so tiny when I got hiim six months ago.

They are happy to spend time together

Lots of snuggling and carrots.

The proud "grandparents" with Diana-Rose. She loves Pigbert so much...he adores her

Daddy Lambert notices his daughter

I don't know what he thinks

So sweet together

Lily is so gentle and quiet

It was an interesting gathering

I think they had fun

Lots of food and good company. What more could a party ask for.

Frodo and Diana-Rose get to know each other

Friends!

He may be a daddy himself, but Lambert still loves his adoptive mom

One last picture before it was time for them to go back to their respective homes.

So there you have it. The birth of a baby has changed some things, but their friendships have stayed the same. They still enjoy each others company and are really still one big family.

I don't know what I am going to do long term. I don't want Charlie to have another litter right away. So Lambert can't live with her right now. I could get him neutered, but I need to find a reasonable vet. With Pigbert so frail I am taking it one day at a time anyhow. I think they should have regular parties. I have to clean them every day anyhow and while they are at the party I can clean the two enclosures. I am just so glad to see that the whole family gets along. They really do like each other and that is a wonderful thing. A whole group of rescue piggies have found family and a sense of belonging even though they are older. Of course Lambert is still a kid, but he has found "parents" and friends and now a daughter. It just doesn't get any better.

Awesome piggies, we have to get two rabbits adopted first before we get the piggies.

You will love having piggies. They are a fun pet. I get a lot of entertainment out of the antics of my herd.
They interact with each other and they interact with me. I find they each have such different personalities. They have different tastes in treats too. I have to vary the treats so they each get their favourite sometimes. Of course they all love parsley.

I find their family ties amazing. They really care about each other. I did learn something new today. I examined Diana-Rose again and she is actually a boy. Opps! Now I have to rethink who will be living with who. I am officailly the worst person at  sorting out gender. The name is a bit of a problem, but I will think of something. Perhaps D-R can live with daddy and keep him company. Frodo could then rejoin Pigbert. I will have to give this some thought.

Was Diana-Rose the baby?

And it's weird, because when we got our second one, Archie, we knew he was a boy, but a couple of days later, he had no male private bits.. Well, he did but we couldn't see it! And he also had nipples, we got so scared, thinking "he" could be pregnant..

Turns out it was "tucked in", which our other pig doesn't do, that's why we got confused! >.< !

D-R could keep dad company defintly

How about Danny-Ryan?

haha, hope you can think of a name

I have never had a baby guinea pig before and at first I did think it was a boy. Later in the day I looked again and decided that we had a girl. I guess I didn't know what to liik for. His parts just weren't obvious.

I don't know about changing the name. I am not much on doing that. Anyhow, his mother's name is Charlie(I didn't name her). The trouble is, Diana-Rose is named for someone. How do you take that back. Maybe I have to let Diana make the decision. He is still the cutest baby ever.

This is my first guinea pig "litter" and the baby is 5 weeks old. I do not think he is nursing anymore. So mom must have decided to wean him. When does he need to be separated from her? I do not want him getting her pregnant. She looks a little run down. She is not sick or anything, but she needs some recovery time to get back to her old self. Her fur is not its best and she looks a little tired. Even one baby, especially such a big one can take a lot out of a female. The baby spends most of his time with Grandma Lily anyhow so I may move giniea pigs around. I need to think about who would be happiest with who.

Aw, sounds so cute when you say, he's with Grandma Lily, sounds freaky, they are guinea pigs right? lol!

And yeah I agree, even having one baby can make the mother so tired, but haha, thats what babies are like!!

I'd help you on when to seperate them ect, but I have no clue myself. Maybe search online?
Best to wait until an experienced person gets online, and answer your question to you

good luck though !!

Thats wonderful Catherine. I think DR is going to be a massive boy! He is growing so big so fast. He looks a lot older than he is.

DR was born looking older. He was huge right from day one and then he has had all the milk to himself. I think he will be a big male when he reaches ful growth. His father is not that small, but his mother is a good size, for a female.

I am calling him DR, but it now stands for Diana's Rosebert. I kind of liked Rosebert in the first place, but I wanted to name him for someone.

So I have Pigbert, his adopted son Lambert and Lambert's son Diana's Rosebert. I think we will stop at that, but I love "family" names like that.

Since the baby is a boy and I have been calling him Rose for weeks now, I just have to switch it to Rosebert. He is so big, but then he had all her milk to himself.

I was watching things closely when Charlie was pregnant and I was all set up to remove the male so there would not be another litter. I fell asleep and did not wake until after the baby was born. In that brief time between birth and me waking(two hours at most) Lambert has gotten Charlie pregnant again.
I knew it was possible so I have been feeding her special just in case. I can feel the babies move so I am sure now. She is due in two weeks and I feel bad. I goofed. I am giving her pablum and baby food with vitamins daily and lots of fruits and veggies and everthing else I can think of to help her out. She is fine, but I would not have done this intentionally. Poor little Charlie, she is going to get a long rest after this pregnancy. I will want to suppliment the babies as well, if the litter is big. We will be fine, but it should not have happened. My fault.

The babies will be real cute like Rosebert so I am sure people will want them. I just don't know whether to plan for one or eight or something in between. Charlie is young and strong so she will be fine, but it shouldn't have happened. The night before she gave birth I looked at her and decided that she was due sooner than expected. My last thought was that I would take the male out in the morning when I was rested and would do things right. I don't like to do things late at night because it is too easy to make mistakes. Of course in the morning it was too late, she was already pregnant. At least I have some idea of a due date. Poor little Charlie, she is so big.

I think she will be fine and we will have fun with this litter. Then charlie is going to have a long rest. No more babies, just time to be herself and enjoy life. Pigbert will be thrilled. He loves  babies.

oh dear! Well, like it's already been said  - whats done is done and you are taking good care of her.  And like Bearmon, I wish we were close enough to adopt one.  Since CJ is neutered, he can live with boys or girls

I wish you were all closer. Charlie's babies are so pretty. You would give them the best homes ever.

I am spoiling Charlie with baby food and pablum daily and she loves it. Of course I have to give some to the rest of them so I think they all like this situation. Rosebert is spending some of his time with dad and Rosie and Frodo. It seems to be working. He will have to be moved before the delivery. I do not want him trying to get mom pregnant.

I have a little more than a week to prepare and this time I am not going to fall asleep(I hope). It happened, so now it is time to get excited about the babies. Baby guinea pigs are so cute.

Guinea pigs are some of the sweetest animals about, but baby guinea pigs are some how even cuter!

Yes would love to have you near by to coo over piggies and hammies.

This time I am not taking any chances. Charlie is not due for a week, but I have already arranged things to be ready for her delivery. She is with Pigbert and Lily and they are the two that will be with her as she raises the babies. All the others, in particular the males, are living in the other enclosure. Two litters in a row are fine, but not three. Charlie needs a rest from motherhood. She does love having babies and looks very happy about things however.

There she is looking very plump and very pleased  with herself.

Even if I couldn't  feel the babies, I would know she is expecting.

Mother and son. Different colour, but very much alike.

Sitting just like mom. Too cute.

The whole family together.

Pigbert loves babies and Charlie loves Pigbert.

Secretly we are looking forward to more babies. It has already happened so we may as well be happy about it.
