I have the chance to take on 3 sheep. They are about 24 months old. The story is,i keep bees, and in the field that i keep them there are 3 sheep. My wife has fallen in love with them and wants to save them from the slaughter house. The field has a shelter,so we have no problems that way.My question is, how much would i t cost us per year to keep them?
I have absaloutley no idea but there's some people who own sheep who will be able to help Might not be on at this time though so you may have to wait couple hours/until tomorrow. Hope you get the help though.
That depends, entirely, on how MUCH you feed them, how much hay costs around your area, WHAT you feed them, what breed of sheep they are, how many vet bills there might be, etc. If they are a smaller breed, they, of course, won't eat as much. Yet if they are larger sheep, like Suffolks, or even hair sheep, they will eat a lot. You will have to give me more information about the sheep, and the costs of feed around you... yet, by your username, I am guessing you live in the UK? I don't know what everything is in UK dollars and all that, being that I live in the US. I know that Hannah (southdownsrock is her username) lives in the UK, so she will probably be able to help you out a little more, being that you are asking about costs.
Hi welcome! I have not ssen Hannah in a while mabey look up her profile and email her? Just go to the search button and look up southdownsrock then mabey email her. That or Calum - he is in Scotland but would be good.
Cat mum to Mika and Moz. Two young Guinea pigs Otis and Mr Weaker(not my choice of name )
Hi flyeruk, Laddiecat covered most of the potential cost but the very basics are: If your grass is good it will cost very little for feed as all they will need is some hay (£3.00 per bale) supplementation in the winter and possibly some coarse mix (£10 for 25 kilos). Yearly vaccinations - around £20 (for way too much for a few sheep, but unless you can have farmers leftovers you need to buy a full bottle bluetongue & heptavac) shearing - about £20 for 3-4 sheep foot trimmers - shears about £15 and do it yourself ++unforseen vet bills ??how much when they invariably get ill or need to be put to sleep, which in our experience, sadly, is all too often. ...although we have just got 8 new 5 month old lambs, which I will post about in a separate thread.
Overall though they are worth it and I would say go for it, you won't regret it
