We are re-homing Pete (if you want to hear about it, see my post "Bye Pup..." ), and getting a German Shepherd. We have had a German Shepherd before, and he was a great dog. My grandmother had one before also, named Shadow. This dog looks and sounds just like Ruger, our old German Shepherd; just a big huge baby. We no longer want a dog that will scare someone, but THEN EAT THEM PRACTICALLY! No, we want a dog just like Ruger, that will scare someone by the giganticness of them, but then be a big baby about it, and lick them and love them, not attack them. This dogs name is Apollo, and seems to be pretty sweet by what the lady says. (of course you can't trust everyone) The problem is, is that they live in the city, and he keeps on jumping the fence and trying to herd the people on the sidewalks around. The pound got him right after we called about him, and now have him in a shelter, keeping an eye on him for rabies. Of course they probably have to, if he nipped at their heels (I won't call it biting, because I have seen real biting), but Apollo was probably just being bored and leaving to be a German Shepherd. So now we have to wait until the 20_th before he is out of "doggie jail". I'll let you know when we get him, and show you pictures.
They are used as guard dogs over here(also the police dogs). Some that are mixed up as they have not been trained very well they end up crazy though. Very few. My auntie had one as a pet, it was a big softy!

They are used as cop dogs here also, but there must be many more here, more common, because a lot of people have them as pet, guard, and cop dogs. We would be using Apollo as a guard\compainion for the family. It is lucky Apollo is only one year, otherwise we wouldn't be able to train him what we need him to be trained, not what someone else trained him. The only thing apollo knows, is to wait to eat the treat when they put it on his nose.
That's smart -Jade my mum and dads before I moved out I trained to sit/beg/paw/stay and rollover. The treat on the nose was impossable as she is such a pig! I can see it would not be much use to you though!

Nope, not me. I am SUCH a dog lover, it is hard for me when we have LGDs, because they aren't bred for any purpous but guarding livestock, so you can't train them a bunch of unnessisary stuff. German Sheps you can, because they are bred to be trained! I am so excited about getting one. I love grooming, training, and loving dogs, which is something I can't do at all with a LGD. It will be nice to have a German SHepherd again.
Yes. Dog's are my main love really. The cats are a very much loved insted of having the dog at the moment, one day they will have a dog brother or sister!

Cats are independent and bossy, but they are meant to be that way, and it makes me happy. When dogs are that way, it makes me mad. Dogs are meant to work for us. Cats are meant to be independent companions.
Congrats! We used to have a German shepard, they are very loyal dogs, and apparantly they learn quickly. (ours didn't! lol)

I swear people see us coming and hand us the loony ones. Jade went back to the dog's home three times before she found a real home with my mum and dad. She is really silly, crazy, hyper dog- I worship her.

I think that just all dogs have their "loony" side. Our old German Shepherd, Ruger, definately showed his loony side! I was once racing him through the lawn, stopped to catch my breath, when Ruger kept on running, and looking back at me at the same thing. I didn't have any time whatsoever to warn him, but the next thing I know he ran into a tree in the lawn. I was laughing my head off by the time he jumped back, "YIIIPP!" and I thought I couldn't have laughed harder! Dogs are silly.
Yes. The volunteers were out there all the time walking, petting, and loving him! UH! If he was on watch for rabies, they should have kept their distance.
Here is the new dog, gotta keep him on a leash of course, being that there's aggressive Pete in the barn. Seems Apollo is even more mad that I take Pete for walks than Pete is when I take Apollo! Oh the wonders of the dog world...

Sorry I haven't updated on Apollo recently. He is doing great, and now that Pete is gone, I can let him off of his rope once in a while to run around. Of course, being a german shep, he likes to chase the animals. We are thinking about getting a shock collar, but it is too expensive, and I am finding better ways to train him not to chase them. Apollo has separation anxiety, and since I am the one training him and taking him for walks the most, so since German shepherds are a one person dog usually, Apollo has become attached to me. He is a great dog, and is learning lots of new tricks like, sit, come, stay, no, okay, go on, down (lay down), off (no jumping up on people), leave it (leave the animals alone), and things like that.
