Hi everyone,

I'm just wanting to try to find out whats the best way to possibly train my Winslow how to do agility type tricks? already I have him on a harness and he loves it and shows apptitude that he could do the rest in time. He is very food orientated and its so cute watching him do his little binkies and run as fast as he can with me following like a mad woman trying to keep up.

I think I'll try him with a small jump first but I don't know what the best technique to try, such as showing him what to do by picking him up and putting him over, or getting him to do it on his own, Either way could be a problem but I'm sure he'll learn

We haven't really tried to train our rabbits a great deal and from my reading about it I think patience is the keyword. It does seem that rabbits can be trained, there are even books on click training rabbits just like dogs.
Most techniques seem to be based on food based reward methods, giving a small snack when a behaviour that you want to encourage occurs and saying a word or phrase at the same time and just repeating this again and again.
There may be others here who have actually trained their rabbits who can give you more specific detail.

Regards,
John

I actually haven't heard of the clicker training method for the rabbits so thats interesting, I've trained my cat with the clicker training method though and he jumps up onto something on command or off it when I click my tongue at him.

Thankies for your help guys, I'll see what I can do with my Winslow and hopes to have pictures of him showing off soonies

Yes here is the rabbit version of clicker training on the Karen Pryor clicktraining website, we have tried this for our dogs but not our rabbits:

Great video Tomm, those rabbits look like they're having a fantastic time.  It must take a lot of time and encouragement to get them to perform like that.

I like Muffy who takes down part of the jump  and climbs through. Way to go muffy. I have to admit that the rabbits look like they are having a lot of fun. They do some impressive jumps and they do seem to train well. You will notice however, with my large number and variety of animals, none of them can be trained. Or can they. One word from me and a whole room full of hamsters runs on the wheel. That is pretty impressive training. And Jonathan the beardie, I put her under the sun lamp and say "stay" and she won't move for hours. I would like to see you get a dog to "stay" that long!
