It is concerning that pigs seem to be suffering the same fate as chickens in the supermarket price war battles.

The Pigs Are Worth It campaign aims to highlight the increasing difficulties that British farmers are under, with each pig currently setting them back a loss of £26.  This situation, if allowed to continue will undoubtedly impact on the quality of the product, the livelihood of the farmers and the welfare of pigs.

If you feel strongly about this, do visit the website.  There's loads more information and an online petition you can sign.  I'm sure that this isn't a problem isolated to the British Isles.  Worldwide grain costs and an ever demanding public wanting cheaper and cheaper produce will, no doubt, be impacting on the industry elsewhere  .

I know we do have quite a proportion of vegetarians on here who wouldn't eat pork anyway but do care about animal welfare.  This is a huge animal welfare issue just as much as it is an economic one - they go hand in hand.
