Where did you get the hamsters and what type are they.
If they are Syrians an you got them in a large pet shop then wet tail is more likely and I would take them to a vet straight away.
If it is just runny noses and sticky eyes then a cold or flu and conjunctivitis may be all that is wrong with them. For this just wipe the eyes with some wet cotton wool wipes using cooled boiled water, wiping from the nose side of the eye to the outside on both eyes, you may also need antibiotic eye cream.

Regards,
John

If you have flu like symptoms you must have a syrian hamster. Dwarfies don't usually get such things. Could Sunshine have wet tail? That would require immediate treatment. Certainly make sure she gets fluids and any food she will eat. Keep her clean and draft free. If she has diarhea then she needs to see a vet and get some medication. Good luck with her. Let us know how it goes.

*sniff*, sunshine died today. Im so sad and i don't know what to do. and what worse is, i can't bury him because we live in apartment, with no garden. I had to personally throw him in the disposal...so sad...

By the way, just another small concern about eggroll. he (we think he's a he again!) seems to be squeaking a lot. I just want to know if that is normal? thanks!

Yes, dwarf hamsters can be pretty loud at times and do lots of squeaking.

Eggroll probably misses Sunshine, but watch him to be sure he is alright. I have had hamsters cry when they are greived. Lucy cried little high pitched squeaks continuously(when awake) for over a year. I could slow it down by holding her, but she wouldn't stop. A few squeaks are not a problem. But is Eggroll in pain? When you handle him does he cry when you touch certain areas? Dwarfies do like to squeak, but it is so hard to know what the squeaks mean.

I think it was when I tried to put his 'house' pack in the cage, I might have frightened him with it.

Just give him time and lots of treats and he should be fine. I talk softly to my hamsters and it seems to reassure them. Even if you don't handle him, say something to him. He will know he is not alone and I think it really helps you bond with your hamster.  How is his health otherwise?

eggroll is very healthy from fur texture to food but im a little worried about the exercise part. eggroll never exercises in the wheel anymore. im a little worried. i will buy a play pen soon so he can come out to play even if the wheel isn't his kinda thing.

Hamsters can get quiet sometimes. Eggroll may be getting older and that would slow him down. Also if it turns cold hamsters sleep more. Just give him lots of loving support and give him time.

THanks Cathrine. I play with him everyday. he is only 2 months old though.... THere is something wrong with rasky though. the fur on his stomach has falled off. I read that it could be amonia burn which is basically phsical contact with the urine too often. I will work on toilet training him. wish me luck!

At two months old maybe he is just growing up and doesn't seem as active. Good luck with toilet training. I hear that it can be done.

Hi everyone. Im slightly worried about eggroll. Eggroll seems to be staying at his nest half the time or eating. I can never find him exercising or drinking water from the water bottle. Not only that, he seems to have a small cold. again. Im not sure, but I think its due to the loss of sunshine. before sunshine passed away, eggroll used to be the hyper and active one. He knew how to drink the water bottle and the wheel. When i went to see them just then, eggroll was licking the wood shaving that caught a droplet of water instead of the water bottle, right on top! ive heard that we hamsters don't exercise enough, they get a really round back. eggroll seems to have this symptom..im really worried... any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Oh, I have forgotten to mention one thing. I have found an animal clinic near my place and as before, I have had trouble finding an animal clinic so this will be good just in case I will have to take eggroll to the vet.

He is eating well which is always a good sign. I think he is still adjusting to life on his own and will probably recover soon although, he may not get back to being exactly the same as when sunshine was around.
Also at only 2 months old or so he is still developing and maturing just like a young child going from a boisterous toddler to older child, teenager - then adult, so his personality may just be mellowing and settling  down naturally.

Regards,
John

Yes, I think that after what happened to sunshine you are bound to be a bit anxious, but I think he should be ok.
Although as Catherine always says, things with dwarf hamsters change fast, so I would still keep a close eye on him and if in doubt consult a vet, I know that is expensive but it does sitll always have to be borne in mind when necessary.

John
