After our two pigs refused to eat their worming medicine that we put on their feed (yes - the vet couldn't believe it either, whoever heard of a pig refusing food  ) we had to resort to a worming injection.

Well, you would think that we were kiling them, the noise and fuss that they made!! John was going to inject the pigs whilst I held them but, even though they are only about 13kgs, trying the restrain a non-compliant piglet is a lot more difficult that we could ever have imagined.

In the end, John had to hold them down, whilst I had to stab them both - my goodness they squeeled soooo loud, I'm surprised we haven't had the police round thinking that there's been a murder .

We've got the pleasure of repeating the whole exercise next week when they get their vaccinations

I think we were at it for about 45 minutes - chasing, bribing with food, loosing grip, making sure we didn't stab each other.....so glad we didn't video it, probably not the best example of how to inject a pig!
Poor Betty even pooed on John with anxiety (or should that be poor John  ).

My sympathy to you. It is amazing how animals resist anything that is good for them.  I think the video would have been edifying to say the least, perhaps even too funny for words. You should have seen the first time I clipped hamster teeth. I have clipped one of Frodo's nails and when I recover from the ordeal I will do another.
You could have at least have done a sound track. That was likely very funny. Who would have thought such small pigs could be so strong. At least you know they are healthy.

Pound for pound they must be the strongest animals on Earth! I was struggling to wrestle a 26 lb little pig!! They have a massive dorsal neck muscle which runs from the back of the head in the midline and joins about the shoulder regions and it is like an olympic power lifters quads, so it is very hard to keep the head under control.

We were going to video it, but knowing how quick YouTube users are to leave an ill considered, ignorant and entriely groundless critical comment at the drop of a hat we didn't bother, as I'm sure the squealing would have led them to comment that we were actually murdering the pigs.

If you haven't ever heard a pig squeal it is an almost demonic sound! completely unearthly and a complete over-reaction to most form of imaginable stimuli whether well intentioned or otherwise

John

Hehehe, that must have been hard work  when we vaccinated our pigs they were just as bad and three times as heavy!!!!   We had to get three men to hold them down - they gave up in the end

Hey, I didn't win in a battle of the wills with a very tiny spider. It is unlikely that anyone could win a physical battle with an animal, especially a pig. The sound effects alone gives them an edge since they completely un-nerve us. If the animal isn't stronger and can win by force, then it is weaker and can win even easier because we are afraid to hurt it. You notice that they are not afraid to hurt us.

Either way we don't stand a chance. The zoo does some serious bribing to get the animals to co-operate. They call it training, but we know who trains who in animal encounters. Somehow Frodo has me trained to give him his hay first. Pigbert gets the fresh veggies first, but Frodo gets the hay first. How did that happen? And when?

I have also been trained to bring upsiedaisy half an apple at everynight at 10:00pm and going out in the frezzing cold. i dont know why i dont do it in the day. she likes them at night becuase the piggys are in then. maybe its her way to get her own back on the pigs as they always get the cabbage carrots ect first. pinky is very greedy. and ming-ming always has to be fed after her playtime. has to be play time. if not she sits at me in the food area and looks at me on her two legs. i cant resist.

im sure the pigs will thank you for it. achally i dont think they will well done anywyas.

Did you ever notice how we can't bear to disapoint our animal friends. When we have to do something like vacinating we feel bad about it long after the animal has forgotten the incident. Your pigs are learning fast. maybe the chicken is really giving them tips on how to control you. I bet you gave them treats afterwards to make them feel better. I didn't get treats after my last vacination.
