At long last our hamster babies have overcome their shyness and are bold enough to be out and about. Here is some of the first footage:

After having dwarfs then going to give my syrain Trouble a hug he seems massive now! I know what you mean, you feel like you may break the little dwarfs when you hold them.

Your babies are looking good. Did I see five? When I took in the recue Syrian, Herbert Hamster, he seemed massive. The amazing thing is how fast the dwarfies grow. They are ready to breed at six weeks. You have a colour that I don't have and there is a bit of a difference in there faces of the adults. When I figure out how to send pictures you will see what I mean. The official Hamster Photographer was here last night. Kritika is actually a high school girl who knows more about the technology than I do. I have a litter the same age as yours and the size is the same. I have some adults that are bigger and some that are smaller. The range is not to big. I would love to see Robrovski's hamsters. I understand that they are much smaller. What is it about hamsters that makes them so irresistable. They make me laugh and in a big city like Toronto that is not a small thing.I still cherish memories of Peter the Wonder Hamster. A foot of snow fell last night, but not to worry there is now a freezing rain that is going to put an inch of ice over the snow. I said the hamsters are smarter than I expected, well they are sleeping through this.

How the babies have grown! They are now so much bigger! They could hardly walk there, now if you put them down you will never catch the fast little pups!

I love them when they are that age. Their heads are so big and they look so wided eyed and wondering. I love having babies. You know what is cuter, if that is possible. Baby Skinks. My lizard is a live bearer(no body told me) and I got up one morning to see a new born lizard looking back at me. So perfect and so tiny. I actually saw one born. Okay so I stood by the tank all weekend and people had to bring me food. I wouldnot leave while this was happening. Isn't it incredible the experiences that our animals give us.

Newts are adorable. We have stuff like that in Ontario, but not in the city. Baby skinks are so incredible, alas no good pictures of them. If we have another litter I will try again. They are very fragile and only one survived and that is Emily. Oh I forgot, the female fire skink was "born" here. It is her mother who died. I did not now about the baby for two months and then I just saw a flash of movement. It was weeks before I actually saw the baby, partly, and was sure there was a baby. She had semi baby/semi adult color by then. I named her after her mother. I think her death must have been childbirth related just because of the timing. Whether it was an egg or a live birth I do not know. It all happened under ground. They are mysterious lizards and I love them. I love them all.

The pups are either like Elly, Sunny or a funny little mix of sunny with grey-ie little patches. No one has stayed fawn  . Oh well they are all still VERY VERY cute!!!

Dwarfies go through a patern of color change as their fur comes in. The stripe down the back comes in first, even on an albino, but with an albino when the rest of the white comes in you can no longer see the white stripe. Then the different levels of coat come in in succesion. I can tell the age by what color level has appeared(sometimes I don't see a litter for a couple of days). Please post current pictures so I can see how they turned out.

Only two of the 1rst litter remain in the animalloversweb premises,        . They are so lovely, to fawnies we kept, one which is mistaken for sunny alot of the time despite being smaller,  I don't know what it is, Sunny and this one (we called him Harry) are just so chubby! They get no more treats than the other hamsters - non of the dwarfs get any just because they simply don't like them. And they get just as much thing, I guess it is maybe just a thing of that they are big blokes, he he

Some dwarfies get really big. They are real porkers as we call them here. They get the same food, they just maybe eat more of it. Who knows, they just get bigger. Some of my dwarfies are delicate, but most are pretty chuncky. They are big puffs of fur. The faces of your dwarfies are a bit different. If I can get a good face picture I will post it. The agouti's have "husky" markings especially around the eyes. Really cute. Speaking of cute. Baby spiders are cute like any other baby.

Yes we call them porkers here too, although we do get the PC (politically incorrect) brigade on top of us for use of such fattist words these days!
I'll post a video later to show just what a porker Sunny is these days

Sunny and Elly relaxing having just got "rid" of the children

John

They probably are breathing a sigh of relief, "I thought they would never leave" and "lets get some sleep now that the kids are gone". They are the greatest parents, but dwarfies know when to push the kids out of the nest. Very wise. The golden skinks would never let the daughter go(not that I would have parted with her) and now I am glad. The mother died, but the father still has his daughter for company.

Yeah, Sunny is massive! Harry (one of the two we kept from the first litter, not the attacked one the pure white one) is following his dads line, he is starting to get to be a chubby little boy!!! Oh, you kept 3 golden skinks at one time catherine? I really need to get reptiles when I am older, I am a snake fan in particular! Although after hearing about Jonathan a bearded dragon is up on that list too. Sunny and Elly went digging mad and made the cage (more of) a mess! "The kids are not here, ceeeeeeeelebrate good times come on *la*la*lala*la*la*la*la* celebrate......"

Hamster party yah! Not that they breath a sigh of relief when their children go. Having reptiles is amazing, but is a long term commitment. Jonathan and Joe could live 20 years. I doubt I will be that lucky, but I know it is possible. But then look at Emma, it is 8 years this weekend. Who would have thought of the possibiliy, I know I didn't. I am glad though. You can really start to understand your reptile. Skinks are such unique creatures, they fill a special nitch in the world. Some day I want sand skinks. They appear to swim through the sand. I have seen them, but couldn't buy them at the time. I hope I have another opportunity. You will love the reptile experience. I met someone breifly who has a hedgehog and she said it was sweet. I still want my hedgehog.
