Habits: Hiding! Amber sometimes gives you a fright when you go to let the chicks out of their barn in a morning, as she can be quite elusive and seems to enjoy hiding behind the straw bales or greenhouse equipment.
Naughtiest Moments: Pretending that she really wasn't alive at all – as above!
We are currently at the stage of integrating the chicks with the adult chickens. For artificially incubated chicks this should be done any time after 8 weeks of age. It has to be done gradually and with caution. As the adult chickens can be quite cruel to the young chicks and can even seriously injure them.
Luckily, it has been going fairly well so far and you can read more about integrating the chicks with the chickens in our blog.
We would expect to have all of our chickens sleeping together in the hen house by the time the chicks are about 12 weeks old. Although, we are still not sure of their genders. If, as we suspect, that at least one of them is a cockerel, then we could have problems. We will post updates on the blog and here on Amber's page as it becomes clearer who's a hen and who is a cockerel.
Update:
Here are some pictures of Amber at 12 weeks old she is still a lovely chicken but no longer the cute fluffy little yellow chick:

Check out our chicken discussion forum to see how all three of our baby chicks turned out.
